Euro Media France teamed up with JEM productions and France Télévisions to produce the documentary Nouvelle vague, quand le cinéma prend des couleurs.
Written by Julien Gaertner (stemming from his thesis on the image of Arabs in French cinema from the 1970’s to today) with director Édouard Mills-Affif, this documentary is shown this evening on France 5 at 9.40pm.
Through the means of film extracts and personal accounts, ‘Nouvelle vague’ [New Wave] retraces the footsteps of the actors and the filmmakers of north African origin who have been able to achieve artistic recognition, from the secret films of the 1970’s made by immigrant film makers, to the success of the 21st century in Cannes.
The documentary tells the story of the fight against prejudice, a fight led by a generation of film makers and actors who are able to break through the national barriers of the imagination to take centre stage at the heart of the film industry, whilst bringing a breath of fresh air to cinematography. This is a story as a reflection on successful immigration.
